  • 12 pieces homemade or store-bought dumplings/wontons
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp water or broth from dumplings
  • 1 tbsp doubanjiang
  • 1/2 tbsp chili oil or chili garlic sauce
  • 23 tsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp Chinese black vinegar or rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • Chopped fresh scallions and coriander

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce by combining soy sauce, water or broth, doubanjiang, chili oil, sugar, black vinegar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and minced garlic in a mixing bowl. Mix well and adjust flavors as needed.
  2. For steaming: Line a bamboo steamer with parchment paper. Place dumplings inside and steam for 12–15 minutes until cooked through.
  3. For boiling: Bring water to a boil and gently add dumplings. Cook for about 3–4 minutes or until they float.
  4. Serve steamed dumplings with the prepared sauce on the side and garnish with chopped scallions and coriander.
