2 cloves garlic, minced
500g ground beef
1 egg
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 cup tomato passata
1 tsp sugar
1 onion, finely chopped
Salt and pepper
2 tbsp olive oil
Fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat your pan with olive oil over medium heat.
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly and shape into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
Heat olive oil in the preheated pan. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove meatballs from the pan and set aside.
In the same pan, add the diced tomatoes, tomato passata, and sugar. Stir and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes.
Return the browned meatballs to the pan with the sauce. Simmer the meatballs in the sauce for 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
