Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup softened unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 8 thick slices sturdy bread (sourdough or Italian)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup pizza or marinara sauce
  • 24 thin slices pepperoni

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the softened butter, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt until well combined.
  2. Spread half of the garlic Parmesan butter mixture onto one side of 4 bread slices.
  3. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the buttered side of the bread slices down in the skillet.
  4. Spread 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce on each slice of bread in the skillet. Top with ¼ cup shredded mozzarella cheese, 6 pepperoni slices, and the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  5. Spread pizza sauce on the remaining bread slices, then place them sauce side down on top of the cheese and pepperoni. Spread the remaining garlic Parmesan butter on the top side of these bread slices.
  6. Cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Let the sandwiches cool slightly before cutting them in half. Serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
