Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can French onion soup (10.5 ounces)
  • 3 cups thinly sliced yellow onion
  • 1/2 pound Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
  • 1 package (12-count) slider buns (15 ounces)
  • 1 packet Au Jus mix (1 ounce)
  • 3 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 1/2 pounds thinly sliced deli roast beef
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons grated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the bottom half of the slider buns in a 9×13 glass baking dish. Set aside the tops on a separate plate.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Add the onions, thyme, garlic, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook for 10-15 minutes until caramelized. Add the roast beef and toss gently. Remove from heat.
  3. Spread the roast beef and onion mixture over the bottom layer of slider buns. Arrange the Swiss cheese over the beef. Place the tops of the slider buns over the cheese.
  4. In a small bowl, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir in the remaining thyme, garlic, and salt. Brush the tops of the slider buns with the melted butter mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  5. In the same skillet, combine the French onion soup, water, and Au Jus mix. Whisk to combine, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes. Serve in a bowl alongside the sliders.
