  • ¾ cup baking cocoa
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ cup canola or vegetable oil
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • ¾ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13” baking pan.
  2. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly at the bottom of the greased pan. Ensure cherries are evenly distributed.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together water, canola or vegetable oil, white vinegar, and vanilla extract.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients all at once. Stir just until moistened, ensuring no lumps remain.
  6. Pour the batter over the cherries in the pan, spreading it evenly. Bake at 350°F for 35-40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
