Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, at room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 ⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup apple butter
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup finely chopped pecans
  • ⅓ cup maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter (for glaze)
  • ⅔ cup powdered sugar
  • Flaky sea salt (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook 12 tablespoons of butter until it begins to brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to a bowl to chill in the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, beat the chilled browned butter, the remaining butter, and brown sugar until well combined. Mix in the maple syrup, apple butter, egg, and vanilla extract until creamy. Stir in the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped pecans.
  3. Shape the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 3 inches apart. Bake for 8 minutes, then tap the baking sheet on the counter to flatten the cookies slightly. Bake for an additional 1-2 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool on the sheet, as they will continue to set.
  4. In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the maple syrup over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and a pinch of salt until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cookies and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
