Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F or 45°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter for brushing (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12-16 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and arrange them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet or muffin tin.
  7. Cover the rolls with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  8. Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter if desired. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Let the rolls cool slightly before serving.
