Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheese
  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cheddar cheese soup

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat and set aside. In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom of a slow cooker. Spread half of the condensed cheddar cheese soup over the potatoes. Sprinkle half of the sliced onions over the soup layer. Add half of the seasoning mixture, followed by half of the cooked ground beef, and then half of the shredded cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, soup, onions, seasoning, ground beef, and shredded cheese.
  3. Drizzle the beef broth evenly over the top layers in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on high heat for 4 hours, or until the potatoes are tender and cooked through.
  4. Once cooked, serve the beef and potato au gratin directly from the slow cooker. Scoop out generous portions onto plates and enjoy this comforting dish with your favorite side salad or vegetable.
