Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add diced onion, minced garlic, and diced green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the uncooked elbow macaroni to the skillet. Stir to combine with the beef and sauce mixture.
  6. Cover the skillet again and simmer for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the macaroni is cooked through and tender, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once the macaroni is cooked, remove the skillet from the heat. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top and cover the skillet for a few minutes to let the cheese melt.
  8. Serve the Hearty American Goulash hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley if using.
