A hearty and comforting spaghetti casserole layered with ground beef, creamy cottage cheese, and melted mozzarella. Perfect for family dinners or potlucks, this dish combines classic Italian flavors in a satisfying baked meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 2 cups small curd cottage cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 (16-ounce) package spaghetti
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 5 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 (32-ounce) jar meatless spaghetti sauce
  • ⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon seasoned salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until tender but still firm, about 12 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until browned and soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat, then stir in the spaghetti sauce and seasoned salt. Remove from heat.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, melted butter, and grated Parmesan cheese. Add the cooked spaghetti and toss to coat well.
  5. Layer half of the spaghetti mixture in the prepared baking dish. Spread half of the cottage cheese over the spaghetti. Top with 2 cups of mozzarella cheese and half of the meat sauce. Repeat the layers, finishing with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Cover with aluminum foil.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
