Ingredients
Scale
3 pounds white potatoes, sliced about ⅛" thick
¼ cup flour
¼ cup butter
1 cup chicken broth
1 large onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups milk
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350˚F (175˚C).
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Gradually add the milk and chicken broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat while whisking, then stir in salt and pepper. Let it boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
Grease a 9"x13" baking dish. Arrange ⅓ of the sliced potatoes in the dish, seasoning with salt and pepper. Pour ⅓ of the creamy sauce over the potatoes. Repeat layers, ending with the remaining sauce on top.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender. For a crispier top, broil for 3-4 minutes.
Allow the dish to rest for 15 minutes before serving.
