Ingredients
Scale
150g cornmeal
150g plain flour
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
240ml milk
2 eggs
8 hot dogs
Vegetable oil, for frying
Wooden skewers or sticks
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, plain flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs until well combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth and well mixed.
Pat the hot dogs dry with paper towels. Insert a wooden skewer or stick into each hot dog, leaving enough stick to use as a handle.
Pour vegetable oil into a large deep saucepan or deep fryer until it's about 5cm deep. Heat the oil to 180°C (350°F).
Dip each hot dog into the batter, turning to coat evenly. Allow any excess batter to drip off. Carefully place the battered hot dogs into the hot oil, a few at a time, depending on the size of your pan. Fry until golden brown, turning occasionally, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Remove the corn dogs from the oil using tongs or a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.
