Ingredients
Scale
4–5 russet potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
1/2 cup milk (more if needed for desired consistency)
2 tablespoons butter
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
In a large pot, cover the cubed potatoes with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender. Drain the water completely. Return the hot potatoes to the pot. Mash with a potato masher or hand mixer. Stir in butter and milk, beating until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper. Set aside.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Sprinkle flour over the beef and onion mixture. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to incorporate. Gradually whisk in beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the pan. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes until the gravy thickens slightly. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and dried thyme. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Spoon the creamy mashed potatoes onto plates. Top with the savory ground beef and rich gravy. Serve and enjoy!
