Ingredients
Scale
1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110° to 115° F)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup almond paste, grated or finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped pecans or almonds
1 large egg
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 to 3 tablespoons milk
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Sliced almonds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Dissolve the yeast in warm water in a small bowl. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the salt, sour cream, and egg. Mix in the yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, mixing until the dough is smooth. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the dough into a 14×10-inch rectangle. Spread the almond paste down the center third of the dough. Sprinkle with chopped pecans or almonds. Fold one side of the dough over the filling, then fold the other side over the top, overlapping slightly. Pinch the ends to seal.
Transfer the dough to a greased baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk to achieve a drizzling consistency. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled Kringle. Optionally, sprinkle with sliced almonds.
