Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 8 slices Texas toast or thick-cut white bread
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for about 10 minutes until caramelized. Set aside.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until well blended. Set aside.
  3. Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide into 4 patties and cook in a skillet for 3-4 minutes per side over medium-high heat until browned and fully cooked. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. Butter one side of each slice of Texas toast. Place the buttered side down on a skillet over medium heat. Add a slice of cheese, a beef patty, caramelized onions, and a generous amount of special sauce. Top with another slice of buttered bread, butter side up.
  5. Cook sandwiches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Slice in half and serve immediately.
