This Chicken-Fried Chicken with White Gravy is a classic comfort food dish featuring crispy, golden chicken breasts served with a rich and creamy gravy. Perfect for a hearty meal, it combines tender chicken with flavorful seasonings, making it a favorite for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for gravy)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for gravy)
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness and season with salt and pepper.
  2. In one shallow dish, whisk together buttermilk and egg. In another dish, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat each chicken breast in the flour mixture, dip in the buttermilk mixture, and coat again with the flour mixture. Press the coating onto the chicken to adhere well.
  4. Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken until golden brown and cooked through, approximately 4-5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In a small saucepan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute until lightly browned. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve the crispy chicken hot with the creamy white gravy.
