Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (800g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 400g spaghetti
  • Salt (for pasta water)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, milk, egg, minced garlic, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry meatballs in batches, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onion until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally.
  3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  4. Add cooked meatballs to the sauce and let them simmer for a few minutes to meld the flavors. Serve the meatballs and sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley.
