Bobby Flay’s Perfect Burger is a mouthwatering delight featuring juicy ground chuck patties, melted cheese, and fresh toppings all nestled in a toasted bun. Perfect for grilling season or any casual meal, these burgers are sure to impress with their rich flavor and satisfying texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground chuck (80% lean)
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 4 hamburger buns, split
  • 8 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or your choice)
  • Lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, etc.
  • Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, or your choice of condiments

Instructions

  1. Divide the ground chuck into 4 portions, about 6 ounces each. Shape each portion into a 3/4-inch thick patty. Press a deep indentation in the center with your thumb to prevent bulging during cooking. Season both sides of each patty with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat canola oil in a large cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat until shimmering. Cook the burgers for about 3 minutes on the first side, or until golden brown and slightly charred. Flip and cook for an additional 4 minutes on the second side for medium-rare, or longer for your preferred doneness.
  3. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on top of each burger and cover the skillet to melt the cheese. Meanwhile, toast the buns, cut-side down, on the griddle or in a toaster until lightly browned.
  4. Place the cooked patties on the bottom buns. Top with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, or your desired toppings. Spread condiments on the top buns and place them on the burgers.
  5. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
