  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar for filling

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted) for glaze
  • 2 oz. cream cheese (room temperature) for glaze
  • 2 tablespoons butter (room temperature) for glaze
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons powdered sugar for glaze
  • milk as needed for glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together granulated sugar, butter-flavored shortening, and butter until fluffy.
  3. Add egg, buttermilk, and vanilla extract; mix well.
  4. In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  5. Refrigerate the dough for at least one hour.
  6. Roll out chilled dough into a rectangle and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly on top.
  7. Roll tightly into a log; freeze for about 30 minutes before slicing into rounds.
  8. Place on parchment-lined baking sheets, pressing down slightly before baking for about 10-12 minutes or until slightly underdone.
  9. While cooling, prepare glaze by mixing cream cheese, melted butter, powdered sugar, and milk until desired consistency is reached. Brush glaze over warm cookies.
