- 1 cup (245 g) warm whole milk (100–110°F / 37–43°C)
- ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter (softened)
- ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 2 tsps (4 g) orange zest
- ¼ cup (60 ml) fresh orange juice
- ½ tsp (3 g) table salt
- 1 large egg (for wash)
- 2 tbsps (30 ml) water (for wash)
- 1 cup (120 g) confectioners' sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tsps (4 g) orange zest (for glaze)
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) fresh orange juice (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine flour, yeast, warm milk, softened butter, sugar, eggs, orange zest, orange juice, and salt. Knead for 5–7 minutes (or 8–10 minutes by hand) until smooth.
- Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl; cover and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled.
- Punch down the dough, roll it out into rectangles, cut into strips, and tie into knots. Let rise on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 20–30 minutes.
- Brush with an egg wash and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
- While cooling slightly, mix confectioners' sugar with orange zest and juice to make the glaze; drizzle over the knots before serving.
