  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 tsp red food coloring gel
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup red sanding sugar
  • 18 Hershey chocolate kisses

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer, cream the softened butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the egg yolk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring gel; mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt; mix just until combined.
  4. Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and coat in red sanding sugar.
  5. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes. Immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie after removing from the oven.
  6. Let cool for about 10 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a cooling rack.
