  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 packets rapid-rise yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 11/2 cups milk
  • 6 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tablespoons butter (for filling)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, optional

Instructions

  1. In a mixer bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Warm milk and butter in the microwave until very warm (120° to 130°F). Add to flour mixture along with the egg.
  3. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes; gradually add more flour until a ball forms.
  4. Knead dough for about 6-8 minutes until smooth; let it rest for 10 minutes.
  5. Prepare the filling by melting together the butter, brown sugar, molasses, and spices.
  6. Roll out dough into a rectangle (15 x 10 inches), spread filling evenly, then roll up tightly and cut into pieces.
  7. Place in a greased pan and allow to rise until doubled (about an hour).
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool slightly and frost with cream cheese mix before serving.
