Ingredients
- 3–4 large apples
- Oil (for frying)
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder

- 2 TBS white sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk (or milk with vinegar)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup white sugar (for coating)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- Preheat oil in a large shallow pot to about 375°F.
- In one bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar. In another bowl, combine buttermilk and egg; then mix both together until smooth.
- Prepare the cinnamon sugar by combining the remaining sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Slice apples into thin rounds (about 1/4 inch), removing the cores and cutting each slice into rings.
- Dip apple rings in batter and fry in hot oil for approximately 2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and coat in cinnamon sugar while still warm.
