  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 3 cups small-diced onion
  • 2 tubes crescent dough sheets
  • 8 ounces sliced provolone cheese
  • 14 ounces deli-sliced roast beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ tablespoons dried onion soup mix
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 ounce packet au jus gravy mix
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté the diced onions with sugar and black pepper until golden brown. Remove from heat.
  3. Unroll one tube of crescent dough into the baking dish; layer half the provolone cheese, all the roast beef, cooked onions, and remaining cheese on top before covering with the second dough sheet.
  4. Pinch seams together to seal; whisk together egg, onion soup mix, parsley, and thyme and brush over the top.
  5. Bake covered with foil for about 30 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
