Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp dry active yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar + 1 tbsp
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs + 1 extra for egg wash
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until lukewarm; add yeast and 1 tbsp sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and remaining sugar.
  3. Combine the yeast mixture with dry ingredients in the bowl; add eggs (reserve one for egg wash) and melted butter. Mix well.
  4. Knead dough using a stand mixer on medium speed for about 8-10 minutes or by hand on a floured surface for about 10-12 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about an hour).
  6. Punch down dough; divide into about 12 equal pieces and shape into balls. Place on lined baking sheet and let rise again for another 30-45 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with reserved egg wash and bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
